Introduction to Astrology

Horoscopos is Greek for “I watch that which is rising”. So the word horoscope originally referred to the Ascendant, that is the point of the Zodiac rising over the horizon at the precise moment of your birth. However astrology teaches us that each of us is a complex and subtle blend of traits symbolized by all the planets, and where and how these traits operate is determined by the Ascendant.

Cardinal Mode: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn – Cardinal signs initiate action. You can count on them to always be starting something! My way!

Fixed Mode: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius – Fixed signs stabilize and secure whatever was initiated by the Cardinal signs. Your way as long as it’s grounded!

Mutable Mode: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces – Mutable signs adapt what was initiated by the Cardinal sign and stabilized by the Fixed signs. They change these energies then disperse them to the world. Ok! Whatever! I will make it work!

Sun Signs

The six combination of opposite Zodiac Signs are:

Aries which emphasizes personal interests, Libra which relies on shared interests;
Taurus which focuses on physical stability, Scorpio upon emotional stability;
Gemini emphasizes the search for knowledge, Sagittarius the quest for wisdom;
Cancer structures the emotions, Capricorn the physical world;
Leo believes in personal values, Aquarius promotes collective social values;
Virgo practices physical self-sacrifice, Pisces declares emotional self-sacrifice.

The Elements of Signs and their opposites:

Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Air signs: Libra, Aquarius, Gemini
Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Earth signs: Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

Fire signs are not compatible with Water signs.

Much like our Elements of Casting Circle?

Moon Sign

The position of the Moon in your horoscope is equally important in what makes “you”. The Moon influences your emotions, instincts and unconsciousness. Whereas the Sun represents your will, the Moon represents your instinctive reactions.The Sun your apparent surface that others see, the Moon is the part of you that “you” see.

The Moon can be very esoteric; infancy, childhood, dreams, memory, your past and your very inner psyche.

Because the Moon holds dominion over the emotional sphere, it influences your receptivity to others and also how others feel about you.

The Moon in your horoscope modifies your Sun sign; it brings new forces, different motivations, special elements to the character of your Sun sign. Your Sun sign and Moon sign are a blend as in a marriage where different elements work together to form a compatible partnership, each lending the other its strengths as well as conflicts.

If you feel you are in constant conflict with yourself – if you feel you are two people torn and pulled by each other – learn the positive and negatives of your Sun and Moon signs to understand the elements that make you.

On the other hand if your Sun and Moon share the same signs you will probably find the characteristics of that sign doubly reinforced in your personality.

Your Ascendant

Your Ascendant is the sign that was rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of your birth and it expresses the moment you began an independent existence in this world. It is called the sign of self; your self-awareness, your self-sufficiency, your self-interest. Your Ascendant reflects your outward demeanor, characterizes the way you deal and interact with people and to a great extent determines how the outside world looks at you. Whereas your Sun and Moon sign are a partnership of self, your Ascendant adds the element of other people into the equation of acceptance/presentation of self.

The line of the Ascendant is a very important point in a birth chart as other calculations can be made once this point is established. Without the Ascendant interpretations remain limited and it can never become a truly personalized natal chart.
