Goddess Aphrodite’s Story
High Priestess
Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess. She is the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven, whose body encircles the Universe. “I am the beauty of the green Earth, the White Moon, the blue Sea, and the black Night. I call unto thy soul: arise and come into me for I am the Soul of Nature who gives all life to the Universe. From me all things proceed and unto me all things return.
Maiden
Great Aphrodite, keeper of the Mysteries of Women, we call upon you this night to reveal the beauty that surrounds us. Here in the mirror, the sacred symbol of you great goddess, we seek the beauty without. Reveal to us the youthful aspects of ourselves, the passion that runs through our veins, the inspiration that takes wing at this most fertile time of year.
High Priestess
As we join here together in our circle, to honor beauty, and strength, and community, so too do we honor these things in each other. In the spirit of building that community and in recognizing each other as beautiful women, each of us will have the opportunity to hear what the other women in our circle find beautiful about us. Sit now, and listen, to the beauty that you bring into this circle, and the world.
In turn, beginning to the left of the Priestess, each Sister will sit and listen as the other Sisters in the circle admire her. They will comment on her beauty, her strength, her fortitude, her attitude, anything that they find beautiful and love about her.
High Priestess
Beloved of all gods and women let my worship be in thy heart. Rejoice, for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. Therefore, let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you.
Mother
Great Aphrodite, she who inspired lust and love, whose beauty caused the grass to grow forth and the flowers to bloom in delight, goddess of fertility and mother to many, we call upon you this night to reveal the strength within us all. Here in the mirror, great goddess, we seek the beauty within. Reveal to us the proud aspects of ourselves, the features we carry boldly into the world, the delight that we take in our own beauty.
High Priestess
Look now into your mirror. Appreciate the woman you see there. Allow yourself to admire all those things about yourself you find beautiful. When you are ready, shout aloud those things so that your sisters can appreciate them about you, too.
All will look in the mirror. In “popcorn”-style, all Coveners will share aloud, while gazing at herself, those features of herself she finds beautiful, brilliant, delightful, sensual, and attractive, be it physical, mental, or otherwise. All will listen and appreciate what the other women have to say. When the moment is right, the circle will say aloud, deosil around the circle, “___(Name)___, you are a strong and beautiful goddess!”
High Priestess
And you who seek to know me, know that your seeking and yearning will not avail you unless you know the mystery: that if that which you seek you cannot find within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold, I have been with you since the beginning and I am that which is attained at the end of desire. I seek the crown of wisdom and understanding that might and mercy brings beauty, victory, and glory to my realms.
Crone
Great Aphrodite, a warrior, a lover, a mother, we call upon you this night to reveal the wisdom within each of us. Here in the mirror, great goddess, we seek the insights of your blessings. Reveal to us those aspects of ourselves of which we are most critical and, by our magic, allow them to be transformed into our greatest treasures and assets.
High Priestess
Let each woman approach the altar and take a rose. The rose is the sacred flower of Aphrodite, the flower that represented the Mystery of women’s sexuality. It also symbolizes regeneration and the mystic union with the Divine. The message of the rose is to extend honor to ourselves in the form of non-violence and respect.
All shall choose a rose
High Priestess
Each of us saw our flaws, our faults, along with the beauty in the mirror. It is time now for us to let go of these thoughts and to transform them with our magic to self-love and self-respect.
Cup your rose in your hands now and into its depths, breathe out all your judgments of yourself, all the comments hidden in your heart and head. Breathe into the rose all negative feelings you have about your body, your mind, your life. Into the complexity of the rose, allow your thoughts and feelings to be transformed. In the womb of the goddess, let this negativity lie fallow and be changed through your wisdom into power.
All breathe into roses as Priestess reads:
High Priestess
I, woman, am that wonder-breathing rose
That blossoms in the garden of the spring
In all the world there is no lovelier thing
And the learned stars no secret can disclose
Deeper than mine—that almost no one knows
The perfume of my petals in the spring
Is inspiration to all bards that sing
Of love, the spirit’s lyric unrepose.
Under my veil is hid the mystery
Of unaccomplished aeons, and my breath,
The master lover’s life replenished.
The mortal garment that is worn by me
The loom of Time renews continually;
And when I die—the Universe knows immortality.
Priestess begins to pass bowl.
High Priestess
As the bowl comes to you, place your rose in it, sharing with your sisters what it is that you cast from yourself so that you might invite love and prosperity into your life. Tell us what it is you transform, for if you cannot find what you seek within yourself, you shall not find it in your life. The Goddess lives within you! Let Her power transform you!
All place roses into the bowl as it is passed and share their self-criticisms.
High Priestess
And now, through the magic of our circle, we will turn our thoughts from sadness to gladness, from hatred to love, and transform ourselves into beings of light & love!
Add to this bowl all the blooming things you have brought with you, reminders of the prosperity that surrounds us in the season of spring. And as you add them to the bowl, say aloud that which you wish to invite into your heart!
Priestess passes bowl again and Coveners add blooming things. Priestess places bowl on altar and stirs using the wand.
High Priestess
All join me here at the altar.
Coveners may join hands or give energy to the bowl, as the Priestess so chooses.
High Priestess
(Over bowl)
Goddess Aphrodite, Lady of mystery, of sensuality, and of power
Through your love let these petals be changed
Let them symbolize the wonderful and joyous abundance in our life!
Let them mix and mingle with the bounty of your green earth
And remind us of Your power.
May we let no one judge us.
May we choose our own lives and live them in accordance with our will.
May we love and bring forth life through our creativity, our passion, our sex!
May we carry with us your blessings of beauty, creativity, and prosperity!
So may it be!
Take now from the bowl the gifts of the Goddess that She might always be with you.
Pass the bowl. All Sisters take of the blooms.
