Crone
I am the Crone, hear me, know me, for as I am so are you.
Charge of the Crone
High Priestess
The blessed Crone is not only the wise woman we look up to, but the wise woman of ourselves. Tonight we will honor the passing of the time of the Crone by doing a farewell meditation. Everyone gets comfortable, lie down if you would like, clear your minds and we will begin.
See yourself in a forest, it is night-time and the wind is cold, it is winter. Snow is on the ground, as you look around you see a little cottage with dim light coming from it. You walk over to the cottage and peer in the window. There is a fire going in the fireplace, a large cauldron over the fire. Sitting next to the fire is a small little old woman. Take a deep breath and become this old woman by the fire. Your skin is old and weathered. You warm your arms to warm yourself despite the fires heat. Feel the aches and pains of the withered body that is yours. You sit by the fire thinking over your life, the hurts and trials and the good times you have had. You get up from the chair, look at the table next to you and see you book of shadows open on the table and you smile, for this is the life’s work you have done, all your knowledge written down on paper for those to follow. Around your cottage are your tools, herbs hang from the rafters, books line the shelves around the room. You slowly walk to the door and put on your cloak. You turn around and look at the room one last time before you venture outside. As you walk outside the air is bitter cold, winter has a strong hold on the earth. You shiver inside your cloak and your fingers ache. You slowly walk down a well-worn path deep within the forest you so love. You notice the darkness of the night and feel the silence of the forest around you. It is an eery silence, but you are not afraid. You walk through the forest until you come to an old, ancient tree. The tree is tall, old stable as the earth herself. You sit down under the tree, your knees bent up under your chin as you try to keep warm under your cloak. You lay back against the tree, feel the bark hard and cold against your back. You close your eyes and listen. Your heartbeat begins to slow, you let your mind lose all thought and you feel your body slowly become one with the tree. You continue to sink back into the tree until you are inside the hollow core of this giantess of the wood. Inside the tree, you slowly lie down, in a tired fetal position and your heart stops beating and for a moment the earth itself seems to stop moving. You feel yourself looking down at the withered old body of the Crone you were. As she slowly returns to the earth, you see those things in your life you no longer want to keep with you die with her. Your spirit is sad for the passing of your Crone self, yet honored you knew her so well. Saddened for those things you must let die, yet happy to move forth. As her body becomes the ground under the tree you realize you are spirit, still alive. Around you is a heartbeat, outside of yourself like the heartbeat a child hears inside the womb before its birth. A swishing sound full of life. You also realize you are warm inside this tree, no longer freezing from the elements of the earth outside. All of a sudden the earth gives a giant shake and shudder, the ground rolls, then stops and all is still. Once again, the earth moves and quakes and you are thrust out of the tree into the frigid night air. You are a spirit, a small round light in the night sky. You hear a faint heartbeat and realize this is your heartbeat, as the heartbeat grows stronger, you feel awakened and new. Your spirit self flies back down the path your took to the tree as the crone. You return to the cottage, seeing through the window a small figure sitting in the chair by the fire, your spirit rushes in and looks through the eyes of a small girl. You are amazed at what you see around you. Now as you look through these new awakened eyes, look around the room one more time, take in the knowledge of the crone who once was and slowly walk to the door. Take as long as you need to feel the awakening with in you, then slowly shut the door behind you. As the door shuts, begin to open your eyes and come back to the room here tonight.
The time of the Crone has passed for this cycle, as we have honored her in her passing, we now will honor the rebirth.
Mother
Go to the altar and extinguish the crone candle in honor of the crone
Tonight I have reclaimed what is mine, back to my body, laid rest and given new life for the season and the witch in you. I am substance, remember for as I am, so are you.
High Priestess
The Mother Goddess as rebirthed for us a newness of season, and a newness of self. The Maiden has awakened.
Maiden
Goes to altar and takes basked of books, passes around for each sister to take one
I am hungry for knowledge and eager to live. Feel the passion burning within me, the new-found energy around me, the innocence and trusting nature instilled in me. Search within to find me; For as I am so are you.
High Priestess
These journals are a tool for you to take to write down as you wish, those things you feel awaken inside you from now until Imbolc. For though we are at the beginning again, we are still in the darkness of winter, a time still to look inward and take care of ourselves. Yet, as we move into this time of rebirth and of light, what better way to recognize this change and look forward to a new season than to honor those among us who are awakening and striving forth on their path. Now I will give the ritual over as we celebrate with them on their Maiden journey of their next degree.
